Friends walking on a beach

Both is Better

One of the unique aspects of Adventure-Us is the combination of local events and travel. Most companies focus on one or the other because it's a simpler business model. For instance, many social clubs are really just offering dinner or drinks. They don't actually provide value except for facilitating reservations and introductions, and people pay ridiculous surcharges per event just to be in the room. Yet people flock in droves because they're lonely. It feels productive to at least be doing something.

When it comes to travel, people join tour groups because they want company, but they're rarely expecting vacation friends to become real friends. It does sometimes happen, but it's rare. Unless you have the ability to make plans for another trip right away or are really, really, motivated to stay in touch, it's really hard to keep those budding relationships alive. You simply can't repeat the feeling of closeness that came from hanging out all day everyday after you get back to real life.

However, the combination of the two is absolute magic! When the group of friends you hang out with in town also become your travel buddies, then every interaction reinforces the bond. You have months to anticipate an upcoming trip together--talking about where you'll go, what you'll do, and what it will mean to you. Are you just relieved to have a break from work, or is the trip a bucket-list destination that holds special significance? Every conversation you have at Sip & Snack or over a board game builds on the meaning behind the trip and adds more insight and understanding to your relationship.

Then, while you're actually on the trip, you enjoy everything so much more because you're sharing it with people you already care about. You understand the months of anxiety leading up to your friend's first SCUBA dive, or the connection she feels from being in the country where her mom grew up. The whole experience is richer because you know details and emotions and back story. Traveling with strangers can be fun too, but it's definitely not the same.

When you get home, you now have shared history. You tell travel stories together. The memories make you regard that person differently going forward. They saw you not at your best--first thing in the morning, or in a swimming suit, or freaking out before mounting a camel. They also witnessed your triumph at finally getting up while waterskiing or having the fastest time on the racetrack. You'll both remember those peak experiences forever.

People need more than a weekly dinner to become real friends. Other companies assume they can fill the room and friendship will just happen spontaneously. That's not how humans operate. We need to spend quantity and quality time in a variety of settings, otherwise we never get past the polite acquaintance stage. Adventure-Us was deliberately designed with 8 different event categories, including tours and trips, precisely for that reason. If you're ready to see it in action, join today!
